South Jersey Football Preview - Part 1

St. Augustine (5-0) at Holy Spirit (5-0), Friday, 6 p.m.
This game looks like a classic matchup, but really, can anybody stay close St. Augustine? The Hermits' closest win was a 47-30 opening victory over Philadelphia area power Malvern Prep. Dynamic junior quarterback Joshua Zamot has completed 31 of 45 passes for 586 yards and seven TDs with three interceptions He has rushed for 342 yards (9.5 avg.) and 7 TDs. Fellow junior Kyle Dobbins has rushed for 749 yards (7.9 avg.) and 8 TDs. Holy Spirit junior quarterback has been steady running the offense. He has completed 25 of 47 for 337 yards, four TDs and no interceptions. Senior Reginald Jean Charles has rushed for 860 yards (9.1 avg.) and 11 TDs. So the team that is able to stop the run, will likely emerge as the winner.

Burlington Township (4-1) at Ewing (4-1), Friday, 7 p.m.
This is a game between Group 3 contenders. Burlington Township competes in South Jersey Group 3 and Ewing is in Central Jersey Group 3. Burlington Township's lone loss was to unbeaten Lenape, 20-3. The Falcons have some big-play performers, including running back Drew Price, who is averaging more than six yards per carry. Ewing's lone loss was 27-17 to Willingboro. The Blue Devils have a dynamic quarterback in senior Edamiyon Doggett. He has completed 49-76 for 1,048 yards, eight TDs and two interceptions. Doggett has also rushed for 366 yards (5.1 avg.) and six TDs.

Camden (2-2) at Timber Creek (4-0), Friday, 7 p.m.
Camden's two losses have been in overtime to two undefeated teams, Camden Catholic and Cherry Hill West. Yet this will by far be the best team the Panthers will face. Timber Creek junior Devin Leary was considered the top returning QB in South Jersey and he has lived up to this billing. Leary has completed 59-95 for 1,153 yards 17 touchdowns and one interception. Senior Ezrah Archie has caught 27 passes for 482 yards and nine touchdowns. Camden's best chance is to have a prolific running game and attempt to keep the Timber Creek offense off the field. Junior Najyere Edwards has rushed for 447 yards (5.8 avg.) and 4 TDs.

Shawnee (4-0) at Camden Catholic (4-0), Friday, 7 p.m.
After earning an opening week 22-15 overtime win over Camden, Camden Catholic has not been tested. The Irish have won their last three games by a 110-27 margin. Camden Catholic senior Nazir Streater is among the top two-way players in South Jersey. He has rushed for 654 yards (7.7 avg.) and nine touchdowns. Streater also has 14 tackles and one sack. Shawnee is coming off a 28-12 victory over winless Kingsway. That was the largest margin of victory for a Shawnee team that has beaten Cherokee, Allentown and Washington Township by a combined 13 points.
