South Jersey Non-Public Boys’ Basketball Tournament SOUTH JERSEY NON-PUBLIC A
Defending champion: St. Augustine beat Bishop Eustace, 65-35 in the final.

This season’s first-round matchups: (1) St. Augustine (bye); (9) Notre Dame at (8) Paul VI; (5) Bishop Ahr (bye); (4) Camden Catholic (bye); (3) St. Joseph Metuchen (bye); (11) Donovan Catholic at (6) Bishop Eustace; (10) St. John Vianney at (7) Red Bank Catholic; (2) Christian Brothers Academy (bye)
Favorite: Christian Brothers Academy
Main contenders: St. Augustine, Camden Catholic, St. Joseph Metuchen.
Outlook: St. Augustine is the two-time defending sectional champion and will be a major contender again. The Hermits recently lost to Non-Public B top seed Wildwood Catholic, 61-53 in the highly competitive Cape Atlantic League Tournament.
CBA, however has played a tough schedule and is always a major contender. The Colts lost to Non-Public South B favorite Ranney, 69-53 in a Shore Conference semifinal.
Camden Catholic has played a difficult schedule which will help the Irish in the postseason. The Irish ended the regular season on seven-game win streak.
This is a tournament that three main contenders along with CBA, could all win. It appears to be the most balanced Non-Public A has been in a while.
SOUTH JERSEY NON-PUBLIC B
Defending champion: Patrick School defeated Roselle Catholic, 71-62 in the final. Tournament begins: Feb. 27.
This season’s first-round matchups: Round (16) Moorestown Friends at (1) Wildwood Catholic; (9) Immaculata at (8) Holy Spirit; (12) St. Rose Belmar at (5) Trenton Catholic; (13) Doane Academy at (4) St. Joseph Hammonton; (14) Holy Cross at (3) Mater Dei; (11) Gloucester Catholic at (6) Timothy Christian; (10) Calvary Christian at (7) Rutgers Prep); (15) Wardlaw-Hartridge at (2) Ranney. Favorite: Ranney.
Main contenders: Wildwood Catholic, Trenton Catholic.
Outlook: Ranney has two five-star recruits in Scottie Lewis and Bryan Antoine. Ranney just beat Mater Dei, 52-28 to win its first Shore Conference title. Wildwood Catholic just beat Atlantic City in OT to win the prestigious Cape Atlantic League title.
Wildwood Catholic senior guard Caleb Fields, a Bowling Green recruit, is among the top players in South Jersey.
Trenton Catholic is always dangerous in the tournament and this year should be no exception. Among the more impressive wins this year over a South Jersey team was a 56-54 triumph over St. Augustine.
