Only the best contemporary folk, blues, rock and alternative country artists will be found in the free Sundown Music Series at the McLaughlin-Norcross Memorial Dell in Haddon Heights this summer. International stars THE COMMITMENTS and MARSHALL CRENSHAW are among those brightening the Dell at sundown during the month of July, while critically acclaimed rising stars KIM RICHEY and ERIN McKEOWN keep August on the cutting edge. Local talent gets the opportunity to share the spotlight as the opening act at every performance. Early visitors to the series in June were Alice Peacock and Willy Porter. The Sundown Music Series is one of several free outdoor music series being presented this summer by the Camden County Board of Freeholders.
The stars from the motion picture "The Commitments," rated 33rd of the top 100 all time movies by the British Film Industry, take the stage July 30 in Haddon Heights. Also known as the "Guerillas of Soul," the nine-piece outfit plays favorite tracks from the soundtrack.
From contemporary country to pop/rock, the songwriting talents of Kim Richey have placed this rising star among the most requested artists on WXPN. Known for the clever and optimistic melancholy of her songs, Richey appears August 13 at the Dell.
Erin McKeown has been labeled folksy pop and quirky folk, but the music she produces is distinctively her own. The singer/songwriter and talented musician on guitar, piano, banjo, and mandolin performs in Haddon Heights August 27.
Fans of local music fans will have an extra incentive to be at the McLaughlin-Norcross Memorial Dell in Haddon Heights, N.J., this summer: Local singer-songwriters will be opening every show.
The SUNDOWN MUSIC SERIES AT THE MCLAUGHLIN-NORCROSS MEMORIAL DELL is Co-Sponsored by Max's Seafood Café, DeSimone Enterprises and the Courier-Post. Performances are produced in conjunction with Jack Utsick Presents NE, Inc.
