Margaux Vellucci
Moorestown
Moorestown Friends School junior Vellucci (pictured) was selected as one of the handful of young women to perform at The United Nations’ Day of the Girl Summit in New York City. Vellucci, a member of the Alice Paul Institute’s Girls Advisory Council, performed Tchaikovsky’s “Nocturne in D minor” on the piano at the second annual summit, which celebrates girls across the world who have overcome gender discrimination through their various art forms.

Cherry Hill East Robotics Club
Cherry Hill
An astonishing three teams from Cherry Hill East High School made the trip across the country to compete in the VEX Robotics World Championship in Anaheim, Calif. Only five teams from the state made the cut, and while the school has taken part in the competition for five consecutive years, this year the three teams—Black Tie Robotics, Dues Vex Machina and Frightening Lightening—ranked in the top 50 percentile for almost every competition during the three-day tournament.

Justin Beck
Marlton
Beck was one of 10,000 students across the country who competed at the Future Business Leaders of America's National Competitive Events in Tennessee. Beck won first place in the Introduction to Technology Concepts event along with $500. In order to have even been considered to participate, the student must have received the highest score at their individual regional competitions.

Cameron Dougherty
Voorhees
Dougherty was awarded the title of Outstanding Senior Man of the Year for the class of 2014 at Susquehanna University. Dougherty was active in his accounting major as well as on campus during his tenure at the university, and was honored by the alumni association for his work on the university’s Board of Trustees, men’s ice hockey team and Alpha Lambda Delta honor society, among many other things.

Christopher Cryer and Morgan Hill
Mount Laurel
Lenape High School seniors Cryer and Hill received the National Merit Academic Achievement Award. The academic competition recognizes outstanding black American high school students for their academic achievements. In order to qualify, students must have taken the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. More than 160,000 students entered the program, and about 4,700 were honored.

Katie and Caroline O’Rorke
Medford
Shawnee High School sisters Katie, a senior, and Caroline, a freshman, received a Congressional Commendation for their volunteer efforts, and were awarded the highest level of the President’s Volunteer Service Award. In addition to organizing several collection drives this year, the sisters also organized the annual Medford Students March Against Hunger, an event that provides thousands of pounds of food for the Food Bank of South Jersey.

Alisha Gonzales
Marlton
Recent Widener University graduate Gonzales was awarded the Kimberly Marshall Health Psychology Dissertation Award. Gonzales, who received her doctorate in clinical psychology this year, was given the award for her work at Widener, and was recognized for her promising future in the field of health psychology.

Countryside Elementary Students
Mount Laurel
Countryside Elementary School took second place in the Colgate and ShopRite Recycled Playground Challenge. In the challenge, participating schools earned credits for sending in items such as toothpaste tubes and floss containers to TerraCycle, a company repurposing products that are difficult to recycle. Countryside earned 500 tote bags, pencil cases, pens and a gift certificate of $750 to ShopRite for their hard work.

Alexa Mangual and Julian Savelski
Washington Township
Mangual and Savelski were honored by College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program. The program honors Hispanic/Latino juniors in high school that performed exceptionally well on the PSATs. Both students will receive certificates to display their success.

Michael H. Fleming
Medford
Fleming was awarded the Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award by the International Sculpture Center, a nonprofit organization which honors the understanding of sculpture and its contribution to society. Fleming, a Medford resident, was a 2014 graduate from Alfred University’s master of fine arts program and was recognized for this award due to his ambition, his skills and his conceptual thinking.

Tri-M Music Honor Society
Washington Township
At the National Association for Music Education’s 2014 National Tri-M Chapter of the Year Award ceremony, Washington Township High School’s Tri-M Music Honor Society was named second runner-up overall nationally. Their chapter was selected to represent New Jersey at the ceremony, and was also chosen as a senior division winner. They received a $600 scholarship for their dedication to their music program.

Gina Alvarez, Ciara Alonzo, Emilio Pomales and Samantha Nevius
Gloucester County
Rowan College at Gloucester County students Alvarez, Alonzo, Pomales and Nevius each received $1,000 Peter J. McGuire scholarships. The students were awarded at the 120th Annual Labor Day observance ceremony, which pays homage to the creator of Labor Day, Peter McGuire. This award has given out 575 scholarships to deserving students since its start, and honors students who embody the message behind Labor Day.
