Lenape High School Lenape High School is the oldest school in the Lenape Regional High School District, which includes its sister schools Cherokee, Shawnee, Seneca High Schools and Sequoia Alternative Program. Lenape High School opened in 1959 and has grown significantly since then. Nearly 2,000 students attend Lenape High School. Students are split between two school buildings, with Grades 9 and 10 in the North Building and Grades 11 and 12 in the South Building.

The district aims to develop students who are academically and socially prepared to succeed in a changing society. According to the school’s website, this will be accomplished through leading edge curriculum adjusted to individual student needs. Teachers at all Lenape Regional Schools have a passion for educating while using innovative teaching methods.

Congratulations to Lenape junior Ian Wasserman on winning a $20,000 scholarship through the H&R Block Budget Challenge – a teen financial literacy program that rewards high school students and classes for mastering real-world budgeting and personal finance decision-making. According to the school’s website, he was one of 66 winners nationwide.

Lenape has many talented student photographers. Amber Scarabaggio, Rylan Lynch, Scott Buck, Victoria Ieradi, Kelsey Di Penta and Janelle Canavos recently won awards at the 2015 Ocean County Camera Club Student Photo Competition. In the Photojournalism category, Jazz Hands by Janelle Canavos and Solus Rex by Scott Buck placed First and Second respectively. In the Monochrome category, Sliver Notes by Kelsey Di Penta took 3rd place. In the Photographer's Choice category, A True Love for Reading by Amber Scarabaggio was a Judge's Choice selection. In the Architecture category, both Eastern State of Mind by Victoria Ieradi andAbandoned Aid by Rylan Lynch were awarded Judge's Choice honors.

There are lots of opportunities for students to become involved in the school. There is a full range of sports teams, as well as many extracurricular clubs and activities. This school year has already seen some great accomplishments, and the school is looking forward to many more. Other positive clubs at the school include REBEL, which is an anti-smoking group that promotes good choices; and SADD, which stands for Students Against Destructive Decisions.

Like many other schools in the South Jersey area, Lenape has an active Renaissance club. Lenape Renaissance recognizes and rewards academic excellence, personal improvement, and good citizenship. Lenape’s program was honored for its commitment to education with a Mt. Laurel Township Proclamation. Renaissance activities include Smart Cookies – Principal’s List and Perfect Attendance Award Breakfast, Bus Driver Appreciation Day, Graduating Car Award, Faculty Picnic and People’s Choice Awards and Senior Pinning.

Annually, each school in the Lenape Regional High School District chooses one of its students to receive the Volunteer Service Award, which recognizes the valuable contributions students are making in the community. Nominations were made by district employees, community members or the student themselves. An independent committee reviewed all applications and selected Jacob Demree (pictured)as this year’s Lenape High School recipient.

Lenape also boasts many talented athletes who participate in sports such as football, cross country, cheerleading, field hockey, soccer, tennis, volleyball, gymnastics, basketball, wrestling, bowling, track, swimming, baseball, softball, lacrosse, and golf.
