Villari`s Milmarian

In Italian, "antipasto" means "before the meal." The complimentary antipasto at Villari`s was certainly a delicious beginning to wonderful meals for me and my companion, Matt. Marinated cherry peppers filled with lean prosciutto wrapped around a core of provolone were perched atop slices of imported cheese. Next came a complimentary duo of bruschettes covered with a salsa-like mixture of chopped fresh parsley, diced tomatoes, onions, oil and garlic.

As an appetizer, Matt enjoyed Steamed Mussels ($7.25), a large bowl of juicy and plump mussels steamed with garlic and fresh herbs. I began with a hearty cup of Italian Wedding Soup (included with the meal), a harmonious blend of miniature meatballs, escarole, chunks of carrots and celery in a flavorful broth.

For our entrees, I chose the Veal Parmigiana Sicilian Style ($16.00), and Matt ordered the Scallops and Shrimp Marinara ($15.95). Mine was three tender veal medallions sauteed with Italian bread crumbs, topped with provolone and served over marinara sauce. On the side was an order of angel hair pasta. Outstanding! Matt was equally pleased with his selection, which featured good-sized shrimp and sea scallops sauteed in marinara sauce over a bed of linguine.

Our resolve to forego dessert vanished with the presentation of the pastry tray, an assortment of cannoli, cheesecake, tortes and a chocolate brick filled with whipped cream ($3.50 each).

After a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience, I was not surprised to learn that this family-oriented restaurant is celebrating 50 years at the same location. Villari`s can please everyone.

Pizzas, chicken wings and sandwiches are served in the sports bar area in front, and full-course dining is served in a large candlelit room in the rear. Comfortable captain`s chairs at linen-covered tables make for a relaxed setting. Live entertainment is featured on weekends.
