COMMUNITY CONNECTION

News from around South Jersey

Medford Township Council gave the green light for three residential redevelopment projects. The plans are for the areas of Hartford Square, Stokes Square and Arc Wheeler. The consideration of approval for all three areas is within the agreement the township has with Fair Share Housing Center.

Cherry Hill Public Schools gained additional state aid for the 2017-2018 school year. The Board of Education approved an additional $1,021,510 in the school budget. The funds will go toward various initiatives for maintenance and industrial technology.

POLICE BLOTTER

A Mount Holly man will serve 10 years in prison for robbing a gas station in Eastampton. The 30-year-old man stole $800 and proposed threats to the gas station attendant before attempting to flee from police.

Officials are looking to identify a man who robbed the Jared Jewelers on Haddonfield Road in Cherry Hill earlier this month. He was seen leaving the store after 25 minutes with an undisclosed amount of solitary jewels in a gray SUV.

A couple in Washington Township has been formally accused on charges of third-degree burglary and theft. The pair allegedly broke into a truck and stole almost $2,000 worth of tools. One half of the pair was also indicted for a home burglary in February.

Team, player and coach news

Kingsway wrestling standout Quinn Kinner, a rising senior, made a verbal commitment earlier this month to continue his career at North Carolina State. Kinner, a state champion last year at 132 pounds, will join his older brother Trace, who is a freshman with the Wolfpack.

Shannon Gasparovic, who will be a senior at Washington Township this fall, recently announced that she will continue her softball career at Wilmington University. Gasparovic, a pitcher/first baseman, was among the team’s top hitters last spring and also contributed in the circle, helping the Minutemaids to an 18-9 record.

A.J. Johnson was named the interim football coach at Bishop Eustace in late July. A volunteer assistant for the last eight years, he replaces Rob Cormier, who led the program for 10 seasons. Johnson is also the girls track coach at Bishop Eustace.

Nick Decker, a rising senior at Seneca, was chosen to play in the Perfect Game All-American Classic, an annual baseball game featuring the top high school players in the country. The game was held at Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres, on Aug. 13. Decker, who has committed to the University of Maryland, hit .381 with five home runs for the Golden Eagles last spring.
