About
Cross County Connection Tma

Cross County Connection is the designated Transportation Management Association (TMA) for the seven-county southern New Jersey region: Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem. Cross County Connection assists local governments, schools, businesses, social service organizations, residents and employees with mobility needs by fostering the implementation and use of sustainable transportation modes.

Commuter Shuttles By County

Most South Jersey counties are served by community shuttles designed primarily for commuters traveling to/from employment destinations. Frequently referred to as “last mile connectors” these shuttles connect with NJ TRANSIT bus and rail stops/stations. Without these shuttles, passengers would not be able to reach their worksites without a private vehicle.

Local Government Programs And Services

Bicycle and pedestrian friendly communities are safer, happier, healthier, and more livable places. Approximately 33% of NJ’s road fatalities were pedestrians or bicyclists in 2019, despite only comprising an estimated 4% of road users.1 Proactive planning to accommodate pedestrians and bicyclist improves safety and can lead to additional benefits.

Complete Streets are safe streets. They are streets that balance the needs of all road users, including pedestrians; bicyclists; public transit riders; people with disabilities; seniors; and children. Adding “Green” elements ensures that even rainwater has a place to go, reducing flooding and stress on sewer systems.
As a bonus, a Complete & Green Streets program will earn you one additional point on NJDOT grant applications and up to 30 points towards Sustainable Jersey certification.
Adopting a Complete & Green Streets policy does not require putting bike lanes and sidewalks everywhere. It simply provides a mechanism to ensure a county or municipality does what it can to make things safe and comfortable for everyone. Often, making a street “complete” just takes doing something small.

Cross County Connection assists towns, schools and Green Teams achieve Sustainable Jersey Certification, a prestigious designation for municipal governments that seek to create environmentally friendly and just communities. Municipalities that achieve certification are considered by their residents, peers, sustainability experts and community organizations, as leaders in building environmentally healthy and equitable communities.

Adopting electric vehicle infrastructure at the municipal level has many benefits. Investing in the technology now puts your municipality on track for a sustainable future as more consumers adopt EVs. In addition, EV technology and infrastructure are a top priority at the federal and state level offering incentives and grant funding to invest in charging stations and EV fleet vehicles.
Under governor Murphy, New Jersey has set some ambitious goals for a clean energy future. Many of the targets and goals include an increase in EV infrastructure.

Travel Training For High School Students And Adults

The Public Transit Travel Training program uses in-class lessons and field trips on bus and rail services to empower participants to use public transit confidently to access jobs and job training. Students are primarily those entering adulthood, including those with developmental disabilities, who are seeking employment or post-high school training. The program targets those in disadvantaged communities and partners with social services organizations. The primary goal is to provide students and social service professionals with the skills and knowledge necessary to access places of employment independently via public transit.

School Programs And Services

Safe Routes To School

The New Jersey Department of Transportation partners with Cross County Connection TMA to administer a statewide bicycle and pedestrian education and encouragement program. Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is a federal, state and local effort to enable and encourage children in grades K-8, including those with disabilities, to walk and bicycle to school. SRTS facilitates the planning, development and implementation of projects that improve safety and air quality, as well as reduce traffic and fuel consumption around schools.

Become An Air Quality Partner

Air Quality Action Advisories are sent out via e-mail to air quality partners when ground level ozone and/or particle pollution levels are forecasted to be unhealthy. These advisories are not only a health warning, but a reminder to initiate actions that help reduce further air pollution.
Keep employees and clients informed on air quality conditions in the region. Register to receive Air Quality Action Alerts when unhealthy conditions are expected.
