Re-enactors Don`t Get To Row Re-enactors at Washington Crossing, NJ are again gathered at the Delaware River for the Christmas Day commemoration of George Washington's bold crossing during the Revolutionary War.

But this month's rain is keeping them on shore. Safety concerns about the swollen river scrapped the rowing.

Thousands of spectators gathered anyway on the Pennsylvania side to watch re-enactors march, fire artillery and to hear readings from Thomas Paine's "Common Sense."

Some re-enactors say their own ranks are thinned amid continuing friction with Pennsylvania park administrator Michael BerthauD.

Berthaud won't comment. Pennsylvania park commission spokeswoman Jane Crawford will only praise the volunteers' dedication.
