Suspect Charged in Wawa Robbery

Suspect Charged in Wawa Robbery New Jersey State Police have charged an Atlantic City man in connection with the February 5, 2004 armed robbery of a Wawa convenience store located at Sea Isle Boulevard and US 9.

Middleton M. Dunmore, age 34, whose last known address is South Kentucky Avenue in Atlantic City, was charged with Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Terroristic Threats, Criminal Restraint and weapons offenses. A handgun believed to have been used in the robbery has been recovered. Dunmore was lodged in the Cape May County Jail pending an arraignment in Superior Court.

The investigation of other area convenience store robberies continues. Since December 2003, seven armed robberies have occurred in Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland counties. No charges have been made in those incidents.

Trooper Bertram Zimmerman III was killed when the State Police marked car he was operating struck a utility pole as he responded to assist other Troopers attempting to apprehend Dunmore. The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the State Police Major Crime Unit, Troop 'A' Criminal Investigation Office, and the State Police Fatal Accident Unit.
