New Fingerprinting System in Cape May

by Press Release | Feb 23, 2004
New Fingerprinting System in Cape May Freeholder Vice-Director Ralph E. Sheets, Jr. and Sheriff John Callinan are pleased to announce that the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and the Cape May County Sheriff’s Office have been selected by the New Jersey State Police to participate in a Fully Integrated Fingerprint Identification System (FIFIS).

The system provides for the electronic transmission of criminal fingerprint cards 24 hours a day from the point of booking, using live scan devices, to the State Bureau of Identification; thereby providing rapid identification while the suspect is still in custody. At the end of the identification process, the suspect’s criminal history record is automatically built and the fingerprint card is then electronically transmitted to the Federal Bureau of Identification’s Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System.

The Federal Government is providing funding for FIFIS with matching funds coming from the County of Cape May.
