Traffic Tragedy in Camden A deadly accident on a heavily traveled road through Camden has left a mother dead and one of her children injured.

Tanya Wilson, 34, and her son, 7-year-old Gary, were attempting to run across eight lanes of traffic on Admiral Wilson Boulevard when the accident happened, police say.

Wilson's brother, Dion Wilson, said he was dumbfounded as to why his sister would try to cross the busy road while it was still dark, when there was an overhead crosswalk nearby.

"We're trying to be strong. The only thing that is going through my mind is why would she do it? Why would she cross the highway?" Dion Wilson asked.

Police said the driver told them he never saw the mother and child in the road.

"There were no violations on (the driver's) part. He was traveling on his way to work. It was pretty dark that time of the morning. He didn't see them cross the road," said Lt. Harry Leon, of Camden Police.

Gary Wilson was rushed to Cooper Medical Center with a fractured armed and broken leg. He is expected to fully recover. Tanya Wilson was pronounced dead on the scene.

Tanya Wilson was reportedly a regular part of a breakfast club at the restaurant.

"She was very nice. She was very respected. She had manners," said Don Jones, a friend of the victim.

"We're going to miss her. We're used to seeing her come here every single morning. It’s a loss for us," said Dion Lewis, manager of the McDonalds.

Police are calling this a tragic accident. No charges are being filed against the driver.
