Fleas Wreak Havoc in Camden Camden City Hall and a nearby office building were evacuated Friday afternoon after four people were found with rashes and blisters on their bodies.

After an investigation by fire officials, a spokesman said the bumps were likely caused by insects unleashed after a possible infestation.

About 100 people were evacuated outside the City Hall and the Parcade Building, which houses state officials and a daycare center.

The four people underwent a decontamination procedure called "gross decon," where they were washed down by hazmat crews and placed in yellow hazmat suits.

Shortly after that procedure, the spokesman said fire officials believed the people were reacting to a possible flea infestation.

Officials said the buildings were examined for any toxic or hazardous substances, which were not found on the premises.

Hazardous materials crews had arrived on the scene shortly after the people became ill at 3 p.m.

The apparent victims were security guards at City Hall.
