Cullen Was `Deeply Depressed` A nurse accused of killing as many as 40 patients in a 16-year span reportedly said "deep depression" drove him to kill.

The Sunday Star-Ledger, a New Jersey newspaper, has published a confession Charles Cullen gave to authorities after he was arrested last year. Cullen worked in New Jersey and Pennsylvania hositals from 1987 until last year.

So far, Cullen has pleaded guilty to 16 murders and is set to plead guilty to another next month. He's made pleas and cooperated with authorities in exchange for being spared the death penalty.

He has told authorities he would give some patients overdoses of drugs to "decrease suffering" for them.
