Teacher Charged with Theft Atlantic County authorities have filed theft charges against a man who formerly taught at a juvenile detention center.

Prosecutors say Frederick Costales of Delran quit after one year but collected pay for 10 years afterward.

The 49-year-old special education teacher was assigned to Harborfields detention center in 1993 and ran the after-school tutoring program for a year. And from 1994 to 2004, prosecutors say he submitted vouchers for payment twice a month to the Egg Harbor City Board of Education -- where Harborfields is located -- detailing the number of hours he worked.

The program, which was funded by a state grant, paid him more than $116,200, even though he did not teach or work the hours he claimed he did, Blitz said.

Costales could face 10 years in prison if convicted
