Fight Erupts at Six Flags

Fight Erupts at Six Flags A series of fights involving dozens of people erupted at a crowded amusement park late Sunday, forcing authorities to seek assistance from more than a dozen area law enforcement agencies.

At least one person was arrested at the Six Flags Great Adventure theme park, authorities said, but no serious injuries were reported.

Authorities said about 36,000 people were in the park at one time during the day.

The first of several large fights broke out around 8 p.m., about an hour before the park's normal closing time.

Sunday was the final night of the Jackson Park's annual Halloween Fright Fest, and several patrons said the fights were started by people who became frustrated while waiting in long lines throughout the day to get on the most popular rides.

"As I was leaving the park three cop cars came in from the exit and then all of a sudden there were 30 or 40 police cars there," Barbara Herman of Staten Island, N.Y. told the Asbury Park Press of Neptune. We saw ambulances and police running around. It was like a movie. The cars just kept on coming in one after another."

It was not immediately clear how many officers responded to the park, but a Great Adventure spokeswoman said most of those officers remained in staging areas outside the park gates.
