Students Spike Soup Several South Jersey middle-school students are in trouble after apparently allegedly spiking a classmate's soup with a prescription drug.

The incident happened at Medford Memorial Middle School in Medford, N.J.

On Wednesday night, the big question parents were asking is, "why would a bunch of 12- and 13-year-olds attempt to do something like this?"

"It's just incredible," said one parent. "I can't believe something like that would happen at our school."

The seventh-grade students were filing into lunch at the middle school last Wednesday, officials said.

School officials said several students then quietly dropped some prescription medication in another student's soup.

It wasn't long before another student informed administrators about the incident.

The student who ate the allegedly laced soup didn't get sick, officials said.

While they won't confirm why that student was the target or what the drug was, other students told NBC 10 the drug was an attention deficit disorder medication.

Medford Township police continued to look into the incident and the school district said it has disciplined the three students.

The school district also issued a statement Wednesday night about the incident.

"First and foremost we are most grateful that no injury to any of our students resulted from this incident," said Dr. Joseph J. Del Rossi, Superintendent of Schools.

"However, the district is very concerned regarding student behavior of this nature. We take any incident that jeopardizes the safety of our students very seriously, and will continue to take every measure possible to insure the health, safety and welfare of our students. The incident continues to be under investigation by the Medford Township Police Department and I am confident that they will assist us in bringing the entire matter to closure."
