Whitman Elementary School art teacher Brewer (pictured) has become a sort of Internet sensation for a photo she took on summer break. While swimming with Great White sharks in South Africa, Brewer snapped a photo with her GoPro camera and put it online. It was made the GoPro photo of the day and quickly went viral, and she since has appeared on news sites all over the world.

Haddonfield
Haddonfield Middle School teacher Farrell gave his students a hands-on look at the Jersey Fresh produce our area is so well known for through a special trip to Sheppard Farms in Lawrence Township. The students learned about the process of gleaning, which pulls all crops left over from the harvest season to sell. Students picked crops while learning just what makes our area’s produce so special.
Margaret Haynes
Mount Laurel
School board president Haynes received an unexpected surprise during a recent board meeting when she found out that the Mount Laurel Transportation and Learning Center would be named in her honor. The board chose to honor Haynes for 33 years of service by naming the center the Margaret Haynes Transportation and Learning Center, and surprised the president with an official sign to celebrate.
Barbara Caldwell
Moorestown
Caldwell, a former Moorestown Friends School Associate Head of School, Academic Dean, Upper School Director and Chester Reagan Chair, can now add Moorestown Friends School Committee member to her resume. Caldwell has served the school in one form or another for 19 years, and will now help oversee school management and policies for the entire school.
Jeffrey Chiusano and Seung-Yub Lee
Cherry Hill
Cherry Hill residents Chiusano and Lee were two of the 50 named Woodrow Wilson New Jersey Teaching Fellows. Recruiting graduates with strong skills in math, science, and technology, the program educates the selected to teach in high-need secondary schools by awarding them $30,000 to complete their master’s degree program. Chiusano and Lee were announced as fellows by Gov. Chris Christie at an intimate ceremony.
Debbie Hodulik
Mount Laurel
Lenape High School teacher Hodulik led her personal finance class to participate in the H&R Block Budget Challenge. Students had the opportunity to learn real-life responsibilities through the challenge. Hodulik and her class were invited to meet Bill Cobb, H&R Block’s CEO, on Good Morning America, as he announced their sponsorship of the program. Lenape has participated in the simulation for the past two years.
Emily Spieker
Marlton
Spieker, a Marlton native and recent Rowan University graduate, was chosen for a Fulbright Scholarship, which has given her the opportunity to travel to Malaysia to teach English. Spieker spent the summer teaching English to girls in Hong Kong, but was awarded the scholarship based on her 10-month program in Malaysia, which will begin at the start of the new year.
