St. Augustine Preparatory School St. Augustine Preparatory School is located on 127 beautiful wooded acres in Richland, Atlantic County. Founded in 1960, the school is celebrating more than 50 years of teaching “Christian Gentlemen” to strive to be their best while growing in faith.

The Prep offers a vast selection of courses from which students may choose. In addition to the basic courses such as Math, Science, Social Studies, English, World Languages, Health and Physical Education, Religion is considered a vital subject at the school. There are more than 40 Advanced Placement and Honors courses at the school in the areas of Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, Physics, Statistics, Literature, French Language, Latin Literature, Spanish Language, Spanish Literature, European History, Psychology and US History.

Independent Study is also an option for upperclassmen with subjects such as Entrepreneurship, Sports Journalism, Athletic Training Injury Management, Film, Geo-Political Economics, Drama, Financial Markets, and Middle East Politics.

The College Guidance and Counseling Department has a job shadowing program that allows junior-year students to gain real world experience in a professional environment. Juniors are required to complete two days of shadowing during the week with the participating business/individual they choose.

According to their website, the Prep got its first computer in 1977. Since that time, the school has constantly been implementing leading-edge technology in the education process. Today, there are more than 200 computers on campus, distributed through computer labs, classrooms, the library, science labs and other smaller labs. Even the school’s guidance department has a computer center where students research college and career opportunities online as well as complete college registrations forms and create resumes.

St. Augustine Prep offers many clubs and activities for students. These include Choir, Latin Club, Pep Band, Chess Club, Environmental Club, Photography Club, Mock Trial, National Honor Society, Yearbook and others.

Prep Talk, the school’s newspaper, can now be found online at preptalk.hermits.com. New articles and photos about academics, alumni, athletics, faculty and students are posted regularly on the site by the school.

Five student singers from St. Augustine Prep were selected from hundreds throughout South Jersey to perform in the All South Jersey Regional Choir. Matthew Balestriere, Marc Reeder, JP Kolnik and John Kosylo joined other high school singers in performing a concert at Eastern Regional High School on January 24 and 25.

The high school also offers many athletics in which their students can participate, including cross country, football, soccer, sailing, wrestling, bowling, fencing, basketball, indoor track, swimming, ice hockey, chess, baseball, golf, tennis, crew, lacrosse, volleyball and spring track.

St. Augustine Prep finished their football season with a record of 8-2. Players on the team included Shamere Collins, Corey Smith, Josh Zamot, Xavier File, AJ Baxter, Jose Tabora, Quinn Dolan, Tim Jurasik, Nathan Fondacaro, Marlon Hargis, Will Albrecht, Connor Hyson, William Gould, Robert Petrie, Ryan McKeever, RJ D’Amico, Lamont Harris, Sean Mulhern, Justin Skinner, Matteo Dawkins, Kris Morgenweck, Dante Enos, Bill Bailey, Saki Mertis, Joshua Daids, Steven Willis, Kyle Dobbins, Frank Casano, Dan Pavlik, Dean Kolonich, Kim Brady, Sal Carfagno, Dale Davis, Chad Penny, Trevor Malaszecki, Anthony Lord, Blake Goswick, Steve Armstrong, Blaine Fox, Tyler Capille, Billy Lyons, Victor Mahar, Andrew Silver, Trent Seibert, John O’Brien, Tom Lynd, Bobby O’Brien, Patrick McMaster and Paul Meduri.

Both the Hermits’ soccer and football teams received recognition for their seasons at the Cape-Atlantic League Awards Banquet in Vineland in December. Senior soccer players Alex Clark and Ben Clark and junior soccer player Christian Bik were named First-Team CAL American Conference. Five football players also received First-Team CAL American Conference awards: junior Blaine Fox, senior Lamont Harris, junior James Brady, senior Bill Lyons and senior R/J. D’Amico.
