The members of the Moorestown Theater Company took home two awards at the 2015 Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta, the largest children’s musical theater festival in the world. The company won two Freddie G Excellence in Acting Awards for their production of the original Disney’s My Son Pinocchio Jr. It was the second consecutive year that Moorestown Theater Company took home an award from the festival.
Haddonfield School of Music
Haddonfield
The students of the Haddonfield School of Music were selected to perform at Carnegie Hall this July. Forty seven members of the school will perform a classical production, featuring six string ensembles and piano and vocal solos in New York City, under the direction of director Robert Bradshaw. The students have also put together a special show, called A Prelude to Carnegie, to perform for hometown fans at the end of July as well.
Ali LaVecchia
Medford
The Medford resident has written her third book, A Zombie on Peacock Hill. The book is an installment in her current young adult mystery series, Booger and Beans. As a semi-retired public school teacher, LaVecchia has been visiting regional schools and discussing her books and the art of writing.
Jeff Langum
Voorhees
The Voorhees resident has a new Guinness World Record for most toothpicks in a beard. Langum, who already holds the world title for best natural full beard, put 3,157 toothpicks into his beard over the course of 3.5 hours—50 more than the record holder before him. He will defend his world title on Oct. 3 in Austria.
Kara Shelton
Mount Laurel
This Mount Laurel playwright has received the 2015 Artist Fellowship award by the New Jersey Arts Council. Shelton was one of 20 recipients of the award and only one of four artists from South Jersey acknowledged. She also received a prize worth $9,000 to help her begin working on her next production.
