The deadly crash happened on Walters Road near Route 322 in Harrison Township, Gloucester County. The investigation could lead to charges against the child`s mother. Sources tell Action News the girl was not in a child safety seat and had wriggled her way out of the car`s seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Victoria Noble, who was 3 years old, was killed Saturday in a car crash after the car in which she was riding in, and her mother was driving, slid off Walters road.

Police say it hit two poles then split in half, with each half coming to rest on opposite sides of the road.

The child`s mother, 27-year-old Christy DiGiambattista, was uninjured, but admitted to Underwood Hospital for observation.

Authorities say she will soon be transferred to another facility for psychiatric care.

Investigators are awaiting the results of a blood alcohol test.

Andrew Yurick/Gloucester County Prosecutor: "We do have several indications of possible alcohol involvement. But because it`s so early in the investigation I don`t want to disclose exactly what`s leading us to that."

Sunday morning an investigator arrived to gather evidence.

Meanwhile, Harrison Township Police are preserving the crash scene until a reconstruction team arrives Monday morning.

Investigators say the toddler`s body had been thrown from the vehicle.

There were no signs of any child safety restraints.

Ed Shaw/Harrison Twp., N.J.: "Oh, that`s a sin. That`s a total sin. With children, I`m just sorry about that."

Walters Road lies in a remote location bordered by farmhouses and fields. Still, strangers are finding their way to this crash site to offer their condolences.

On Palm Sunday morning, a woman, who wished not to be identified, stopped to drop off a cross-shaped palm frond as a memorial to the little girl.

Charges against her mother are pending the outcome of an investigation.

Andrew Yurick/Gloucester County Prosecutor: "There`s absolutely no reason to put a child in a car without a child restraint system properly installed and properly functioning."

The prosecutor expects to wrap up the investigation by midweek.
