Faison Elected Camden Mayor Gwendolyn Faison will lead Camden as its new mayor. Faison defeated City Councilman Gilbert "Whip" Wilson for a four-year term yesterday capturing 53 percent of the vote to Wilson`s 47 percent.

She`ll replace Milton Milan who was ousted from the job after his conviction on federal corruption charges last year.

Faison, who`s served as acting mayor since Milan`s ouster, had 42-hundred 37 votes to Wilson`s 37-hundred 33.

Turnout in the nonpartisan election was light. Only 78-hundred and 75 of the city`s nearly 37-thousand registered voters went to the polls.

Milan was tossed from office in December after he was convicted of corruption charges that included taking mob payoffs, laundering drug money and stealing campaign funds.
