Iverson to be Named MVP PHILADELPHIA -- The NBA will announce Tuesday that Philadelphia 76ers guard Allen Iverson is the league`s most valuable player, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

The 6-foot guard out of Georgetown, drafted as the top overall pick in the 1996 NBA draft, will earn his first MVP award, according to sources in the league office and the Sixers` organization.

It is expected that Iverson beat out Sacramento forward Chris Webber, Los Angeles Lakers center Shaquille O`Neal, and San Antonio forward/center Tim Duncan.

Iverson led the league in scoring this season with 31.1 points per game, helping the Sixers to a 56-26 record that was best in the Eastern Conference
