‘They Didn’t Have To Kill My Son’ ‘They Didn’t Have To Kill My Son’: Dozens March In Memory Of Rashaun Washington After Release Of Bodycam Footage Showing Vineland Police-Involved Shooting

Droves of people came out to show support as a family and community work to find answers following the body camera footage released on Thursday, which shows the moments leading up to last week’s deadly police-involved shooting in Vineland.

Authorities say the confrontation between police and Rashaun Washington lasted 28 minutes before he was shot and killed on Saturday.

Rashaun allegedly alluded to having an explosive device in his possession. The Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office says it was later determined Rashaun had a bladed garden shear wrapped in a t-shirt.

Georgette, Rashuan’s mother said on Thursday evening, “They didn’t have to kill my son. They stood around and sprayed all that mace on my son. Why didn’t they spray that mace before they killed him?”

The Vineland officer who shot him is on administrative leave.

The shooting remains under investigation.
