PBA Tipoff a Great Way to Kick Off the First South Jersey High School Basketball Weekend
The South Jersey high school basketball is ready to begin and one of the great traditions is the Ocean City PBA Tipoff, which has many of the top boys’ and girls’ teams from the Cape Atlantic area and beyond.

The games will be Saturday and Sunday and held at the Ocean City’s Dixie Howell Memorial Gymnasium.

The headliner in this year’s tournament is Wildwood Catholic’s boys’ team, which figures to be the No. 1 squad in South Jersey once again.

The Crusaders have the area’s best one-two tandem in senior forward Taj Thweaat and 6-6 senior guard Jahlil White.

Thweatt is headed to the West Virginia. He averaged more than 20 points and 10 rebounds last season. White has signed with Temple.

In addition, highly regarded junior guard Martin Anguelov, a transfer from Lower Cape May, should be a huge addition to the backcourt.

Last year Wildwood Catholic went 27-2, losing in overtime to Ranney, 54-50 in overtime during last year’s South Jersey Non-Public B championship.

The Crusaders will play Notre Dame in the final PBA Tipoff Game on Saturday night.

One of the challengers to Wildwood Catholic for Cape Atlantic supremacy is perennial contender St. Augustine. The Hermits are led by one of the more impressive juniors in South Jersey, 6-7 Matt Delaney.

Not all the top talent is from the seven-county South Jersey area. A girls’ team to watch is Notre Dame of Lawrenceville, led by 6-2 Erika Porter, the Trenton-area Player of the Year last season with 16 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks per game.

Notre Dame will face Wildwood Catholic on Saturday afternoon.

Tournament organizer Tom Williams always does a great job bringing top teams and players to Ocean City and his hard work has resulted in another impressive schedule.

In addition, the teams are also chipping in for a good cause. Each of the participating teams will bring non-perishable food items and toys that are distributed throughout the area to those in need.

Here is the schedule for the 22nd Annual Ocean City PBA Tipoff Weekend:
