Best of the Best 2026
It’s hard work, but somebody has to do it. That is our mindset each year as we prepare to spend months seeking out the finer things in South Jersey in order to be able to present our annual Best of the Best spotlight. We ate, shopped and pampered our way through the area to highlight what we feel are the cream of the crop and this guide will serve you well as you look for everything from food recommendations to superb salons to where to host your child’s next birthday party. But we also wanted to let your voices be heard, so we once again tapped our readers to nominate their favorites. Read on to find out more about this year’s honorees and why they help make this region a truly special place.

FOOD & DRINK

BREAKFAST at Sunrise Social in Cherry Hill

Early risers flock to this eatery for the chance to order up the chicken and waffles, biscuit sandwiches or the French Toast Cobbler, which consists of your choice of fruit over two thick slices of brioche with sweet crumble, vanilla icing, whipped cream and powdered sugar.

BREAKFAST SANDWICHES at Haddon Culinary in Collingswood and Haddonfield

Locals love to sink their teeth into the elevated handhelds served up at this food market where you can create your own masterpiece or opt for offerings like the Jersey Sunrise—pork roll, two fried eggs and Cooper cheese on a Kaiser roll.

CUPCAKES at Sunflour Bakeshop in Mount Laurel

Moist and fluffy, the stellar cupcakes at Sunflour come in a variety of enticing flavors. Think vanilla cupcakes stuffed with cookie dough and topped with cookie dough buttercream icing and chocolate ganache or the signature carrot cake option filled with raisins and pecans, and crowned with cream cheese icing.

PASTRIES at Sweetsboro Pastry Shoppe in Swedesboro

The display case at this bakeshop along Swedesboro’s main drag is always full of delectable items including the assorted pastries that range from fruit tarts and eclairs to flaky, buttery croissants and bite-sized petit fours that look as good as they taste.

DESSERT TRAYS at Devour Desserts in Mantua

Looking to wow the crowd at your next gathering? Devour’s sinfully sweet creations are just what you need. Whether ordering a cannoli board, parfait shooters by the dozen or a mix-and-match sampler of truffles, chocolate-dipped strawberries and lemonade cheesecake bites, you’ll find plenty of party pleasers.

BREWERY at Tonewood Brewing in Barrington and Oakyln

Tonewood has gained a loyal following over the last decade thanks to its impressive lineup of creative craft brews. With two taprooms, you’re never too far away from enjoying one of their hazy IPAs, crisp Czech pilsners, barrel-aged Belgians or full-bodied stouts.

BAGELS at K&A Bagel Café in Cherry Hill

Made from scratch, boiled and baked daily, these bagels are the talk of the town for good reason. The slightly crisp crust gives way to the chewy inside and they are the perfect vessel for your bacon, egg and cheese or any number of unique cream cheese flavors like banana pudding or Dubai chocolate.

CHEESESTEAKS at Cheessteaks in Merchantville

The hefty cheesesteaks with copious amounts of premium ribeye slid into a seeded loaf have made this spot a destination for foodies near and far. But beyond the Whiz and Cooper sharp, this place is pushing the envelope with a garlic bread version finished with garlic butter as well as the mind-boggling strawberry and hot honey chicken cheesesteak.

HOAGIES at Pal Joey’s in Mantua

No matter what style of hoagie you have a hankering for, this institution is the place to satisfy your craving. You can never go wrong with any of the Italian choices or the smoked tavern ham and Swiss, but don’t overlook the Giovanni—genoa salami with sharp provolone, pepper ham and pepper shooters tucked into a Sarcone’s roll.

WINGS at Francesca’s Pizza, Pasta & Grill in Mount Laurel

When you love wings as much as us, you can hardly get enough and that goes especially for the mouthwatering options here. Juicy and tender meat is cloaked in a crispy skin and smothered with your choice of Parmesan honey bomb, lemon pepper, hot barbecue or any one of the other scintillating choices.

CHICKEN TENDERS at Burger Runn in Glassboro and Runnemede

While this place is known for their smash burgers, it’s their oversized chicken tenders that steal the show. Well-seasoned, breaded and perfectly crisp, these meaty tenders are only enhanced with sauce offerings like the standout hot honey garlic.

FLATBREADS at The PourHouse in Westmont

Head to this gastropub for a pint and the chance to nosh on one of its fabulous flatbreads. We’re talking grilled chicken with avocado, red peppers, bacon, mozzarella and chipotle ranch sauce or the dynamite brisket with corn, roasted red peppers, smoked mozzarella, Guinness-soaked onions and a chipotle aioli.

PIES at Pie Lady Café in Moorestown

Apple crumb, mixed berries, strawberry rhubarb … now what we have your attention, allow us to direct you to this Victorian home on Main Street so you can see what seasonal pies will catch your eye. No matter what you choose, you can rest assured it will be one of the best bites you’ve had in some time.

EGGS BENEDICT at Milkweed Table + Market in Pitman

The exceptional eggs benedicts here come topped with smoked bacon, sausage, scrapple, smoked salmon, short rib and more. We’re partial to the one with prosciutto, baby arugula and truffle hollandaise over a toasted English muffin with breakfast potatoes.

STROMBOLI at Boaggio’s Bread in Mount Laurel

Boaggio’s offers 15 varieties of “stuffed breads,” each generously filled with an array of ingredients. You’ll find popular choices like the buffalo chicken and pepperoni in addition to favorites like the pizazz, sausage and peppers, and chicken scallopini.

SUSHI at Osushi in Marlton

Osushi is beloved for its use of fresh, high-quality ingredients that shine in every meticulously handcrafted roll. There are plenty worthy of your attention, but we highly recommend trying the Salmonshito Roll (tempura fired shishito pepper, spicy salmon and avocado inside, topped with torched salmon and black pepper sauce).

BARBECUE at Big Swerve’s BBQ in Westville

A security officer turned barbecue impresario, Stephen “Big Swerve” Clark cooks up some seriously wonderful plates of food. Come for the ribs, jerk chicken and brisket, but be sure to load up on co-stars like the brisket-stuffed egg rolls, the gooey mac and cheese, collard greens and honey cornbread.

TAP LIST at Reunion Hall in Haddon Township

You’ll never have a hard time finding something to wet one’s whistle at this craft beer hub that boasts a dizzying array of more than 50 taps. Expect to find a range of styles from local and regional brewers alongside some of the more coveted beers from across the country.

APPETIZERS at Briglia’s Tavern in Berlin

Briglia’s serves up a robust lineup of starters that get every meal off to a rousing start. Grab an order of the homemade meatballs with a dollop of ricotta, the filet medallions nestled on crostini with spinach, provolone and shaved Parmesan, or the crispy pork shanks with a sweet teriyaki sauce.

BLT at Café on the DL in Laurel Springs

Café on the DL’s Bangin’ BALT is an innovative take on the classic comfort food sandwich made with pepper bacon, apple, arugula, roasted tomato and finished with an herb mayo on toasted bread.

HEALTHY OPTIONS at Greens and Grains in Multiple locations

HOT DOGS at 1785 FarmDog in Medford

One of many offerings at 1785 FarmDog, hot dogs are their specialty, with franks cooked and topped in almost any way you could imagine, whether that be bite-sized dogs wrapped in puff pastry and dusted with everything seasoning, topped with mac and cheese and bacon, or crafted like a slice of avocado toast.

RAMEN at Kyuramen in Cherry Hill

This place has locals buzzing thanks to the authentic flavors found in each steaming bowl of ramen, where the rich, complex broths, springy noodles and traditional toppings add warmth and depths of flavor.

SPECIALTY SANDWICHES at Café Merlino in Washington Township

While the steaks and meatball sandwiches are excellent choices at this Italian eatery as well, we’re always drawn to the specialty selections, many of which start with “Mom’s cutlets.” The Boss, our favorite, takes the thin, breaded chicken and tops it with Prosciutto di Parma, fresh mozzarella, arugula, red onion, red roasted peppers and a balsamic reduction with shaved Parmesan, all in a crispy, seeded roll.

ICE CREAM at Sundaes Homemade in West Berlin

Whether you’re a traditionalist, like to think outside the box or are truly adventurous when it comes to ice cream flavors, Sundaes has it all. For more than 30 years, it has been the warm-weather destination for those who appreciate inspired sweet treats made right on the premises.

MILKSHAKES at Spilt Milk in Washington Township

It’s tough to stand out from the crowd in South Jersey’s competitive ice cream scene, but Spilt Milk finds multiple ways to do just that. Their shakes in particular are in high demand—made with either soft serve or hand dipped, they can be infused with cereal toppings such as Fruity Pebbles, Lucky Charms or Cookie Crisp.

CHICKEN SANDWICHES at Lorenzo’s Pizza and Steaks in Marlton

Lorenzo LaScala has been around the kitchens at his dad Rob’s many South Jersey restaurants basically since he could walk, and that experience now shows in his own shop. His chicken sandwiches run the gamut from traditional Italian-inspired to his own creative concoctions, like The DeJawn or Sweet Heat.

PREPARED MEALS at Scarpinato’s in Washington Township

When life becomes too hectic and there’s just no time to make dinner, skip the long drive-thru lines and opt for a delicious Italian meal from Scarpinato’s, which recently relocated from one side of Washington Township to the other. For special occasions—from weddings to Eagles football parties—their catering trays are sure to please as well.

CANDY SHOP at Aunt Charlotte’s in Merchantville

The third and fourth generations are now leading this family shop that was founded in 1920, but the slogan of original owner Charles Brooks Oakford Sr. still rings true, as Aunt Charlotte’s promises “delight in every bite” with their chocolate assortments, butter creams, fudge and much more.
