(Trenton)- The Thunder`s 1st ever "triple play" in the top of the 6th Inning helped Trenton to a 1-0 win over New Britain on Monday. The Thunder are now 5 1/2 games behind the Rock Cats for 1st Place.

New Britain (54-40) got back-to-back singles off Thunder starter Chris Elmore to start the 6th Inning. DH Gabby Torres hit a line drive back up the middle that was caught by 2B Angel Santos. He flipped to SS Aaron Capista at second base for out #2, who relayed to Luis Garcia at first base for the triple play.

It is the 1st "triple play" turned in the Eastern League this season. The last one in the minors was turned by Salt Lake (AAA) on July 7th.

That play set the table for the only run of the game in the bottom half. The Thunder got a leadoff double from James Lofton. He advanced to 3rd base on a wild pitch by Rock Cats` starter Adam Flohr (1-3) and scored on a two-out hit by Tonanye Brown.

Chris Elmore (3-0) pitched six shutout innings for Trenton to get the win and lower his ERA from 0.90 to 0.69. Terrance Hill, Jorge DeLa Rosa and Mark Cisar each pitched one scoreless inning of relief with Cisar getting his 2nd save.

Trenton and New Britain have had 10 of their 13 games decided by two runs or less this season. They meet again on Tuesday at 7:05 PM with Josh Hancock (7-3) starting for Trenton against New Britain`s Jon McDonald (3-3). Copyright © 1999 TheTrenton Thunder and Velcero™ All Rights Reserved.
