Drag Racing Bust

by
Drag Racing Bust Sixteen vehicles – including cars and motorcycles – are among those locked up at the parking authority impound lot. That after their drag-racing owners were snagged in a police dragnet. The police crackdown was announced after community protests.

Demonstrations, one at Front and Oregon streets Saturday night, forced the drag racers out of this South Philadelphia neighborhood, but they simply moved – to places like Delaware and Castor avenues in Port Richmond. That`s where police cited 163 people for drag racing early Sunday morning.

The penalties are the same for both racers and spectators. They face a $269 fine, license points, and a date in traffic court – where all the drag racing cases will be handled by just one judge.

Despite all that, many say they`ll be back.
