The Search for Abuser of Butch the Rottweiler CAPE MAY COUNTY, NJ - A dog named Butch needs a new home, and authorities are looking for whoever abused and abandoned him.

Butch is a Rottweiler who a surf fisherman found after the dog was left to die.

The dog has heartworm, fleas, an eye infection, leg injuries; even his front teeth are broken.

The fisherman found Butch on Poverty Beach in Cape May– unable to walk and in a lot of pain.

His vet says he is only four or five years old but looks much older. By anyone`s definition this abandoned Rottweiler – who caregivers have named Butch – has survived a brutal, abusive life.

It`s not clear yet if the tumor is cancer. Right now, June Dulinski at the Bay Shore Kennel is nursing Butch in Middle Township. Dulinski has seen abuse cases before, but nothing like this. Last Wednesday someone dumped the injured dog here along a remote stretch called Poverty Beach. A surf fisherman discovered him. Officials want to find whoever is responsible for Butch`s injuries.

Despite the abuse and neglect, Butch has a gentle nature and so far shows no signs of fearing people.

The person responsible for abusing Butch faces a $1,000 fine for a disorderly person offense.

There is currently a bill on the governor`s desk that, if signed, would increase the penalties for animal cruelty to a 90-day jail sentence, a $10,000 fine and a criminal record.
