Surf Roll Over Riversharks 11-5 CAMDEN, NJ—August 31, 2001—The Atlantic City Surf beat the Camden Riversharks 11-5 tonight at Campbell`s Field. The Surf exploded for four runs in the top of the fourth and the top of the ninth to take the final game of the three-game series 11-5 in front of 5,859 at Campbell`s Field. The Surf move ½ of a game ahead of the Riversharks into second place in the Southern Division of the Atlantic League with the win.

The Riversharks could only muster five runs off of 13 hits, while leaving nine runners stranded. Camden starter Anthony Briggs took the loss dropping his record to 0-5. Briggs lasted three innings and surrendered two earned runs, although four would score on eight hits and one walk. Riversharks relievers Rod Bolton and Jeff Love each pitched three innings letting up a combined five runs, only three of which were earned, on seven hits. Offensively for Camden, Brad Strauss kept up his hot hitting, going three-for-five hitting two doubles and scoring three runs. Also for the Sharks, shortstop Jesus Azuaje added two hits along with one run scored and one run batted in.

Surf pitcher Sam Ali let up four runs on eight hits to pick up his 11th win of the season. Surf relievers Anthony Shelby, David Mastrolonardo and Jose Alberro, pitched the final four innings for Atlantic City only letting up one unearned run on five hits. The Surf exploded offensively scoring 11 runs on 15 hits. Designated hitter Will Hill led the way for A.C., going three-for-four with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Along with Hill, catcher Emison Soto drove in three runs on two hits, and left fielder Danny Perez went two-for-four with two runs scored and one run batted in.

This weekend the Sharks will hit the road for two games in Newark (9/1-9/2) before returning home on Tuesday to begin a six-game home stand, beginning with a series against the Long Island Ducks (9/4-9/6) before the welcoming back first-place Somerset Patriots (9/7-9/9) to Campbell`s Field.
