Attacks Personal To Many In NJ

The attacks also spurred feelings of unity and patriotism, according to poll director Cliff Zukin. When asked if they felt "extremely proud," "very proud," "somewhat proud" or "not very proud" to be an American, Zukin said nearly three-fourths responded "extremely proud."
"And not one person answered 'not very proud,"' Zukin said.
Respondents also said they sought out peaceful or routine ways of dealing with the tragedy. Nine out of 10 said they prayed for the victims, while nearly half attended a community gathering or memorial service.
Eight out of 10 said they displayed an American flag on their car or home, while six out of 10 sang a patriotic song with others.
The poll was based on a scientifically selected random sample of 895 New Jersey residents interviewed between Sept. 22-26. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.3 percent.
