Hit-and-Run in Clementon Injures 3 CLEMENTON, NJ - March 27, 2002 — Police in Clementon, New Jersey are in the midst of a search for a hit-and-run driver. It happened along Blackwood-Clementon Road and Atlantic Avenue, in Clementon, Camden County.

White markers designated where officers found clues, pieces and debris from the striking vehicle. They are pieces that police hope will eventually lead them to the driver responsible for this hit and run. Three people are in the hospital, including a 2-year-old child.

Sandra Novack/Clementon, NJ: "It's a bad area really for people crossing the streets at night, with no crossing lights." Police say three people were doing just that, crossing Blackwood-Clementon Road just before 8pm Wednesday. Then, witnesses say a car, coming westbound, and possibly not travelling all that fast, smashed into all of them. First, a man in his 30's, then a woman of the same age, then the 2-year-old child she was clutching with her hand. The woman and child were thrown over the hood before they hit the ground. The driver, according to the witnesses, didn't take off right away. Chief Robert Getz/Clementon Police: "They saw a mid-sized, light-colored vehicle stopped at the scene, they then went to check on the victim's condition, and at that point the vehicle fled the scene." Witnesses don't agree on the make of the vehicle, or even its color. Some think it was a Honda, others a Ford Taurus, some remember it being white, others light gold. Whatever it was, police say it will have front-end damage, particularly damage to the left headlight. Chief Robert Getz/Clementon Police: "We're looking for information for anyone who may have been passing by here at the time of the accident, anyone who may have seen pedestrians crossing the road, or who may have witnessed the accident, and had not yet contacted us." Police say the victims may have been from Magnolia, but they're not sure. Names have not been officially confirmed yet. All victims were taken to Cooper Medical Center; the 2-year-old was listed in critical but stable condition.
