Bellmawr Bridge Battered

by 6 ABC-AP | May 31, 2002
Bellmawr Bridge Battered After Thursday's accident on I-295 in Bellmawr, New Jersey, Creek Road bridge is shut down for about the next 10-days.

A flatbed truck carrying construction equipment slammed into the Creek Road overpass.

It caused a traffic mess for hours in the southbound lanes of I-295, as crews worked to clean-up chunks of broken concrete.

New Jersey Department of Transportation engineers determined that the overpass was not in danger of collapsing, so they cleared I-295 for traffic.

But driving on the bridge, itself, is another story.

While the bridge is being repaired, transportation crews have placed detour signs throughout Bellmawr, to help drivers find alternate routes.
