Campbell Soup Recall

by NBC10/AP | Oct 6, 2002
Campbell Soup Recall Campbell Soup Co. is recalling a day's production of cream of mushroom soup because a few cans were found to contain New England clam chowder, the company said.

The company discovered the problem after receiving consumer complaints. It was not clear how many cans were affected but Campbell said it was "a small quantity."

People who are allergic to shellfish run the risk of a severe or life-threatening reaction if they eat the chowder. The company has received no reports of illnesses.

The cans labeled "Campbell's Condensed Cream of Mushroom" bear the date code "AUG 2004 08292" and "CU B8EL," followed by four numbers representing military time.

The Camden-based company distributed the cans to retail stores in 13 states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas and Wisconsin.

People who bought the cans should return them to the stores where they were purchased for a full refund, Campbell said.

Consumers with questions were asked to call Campbell's hotline at (800) 637-7698.
