NJ Senate to Limit Telemarketers

by NBC10/AP | Oct 7, 2002
NJ Senate to Limit Telemarketers The New Jersey Senate is expected to take up legislation to shield Garden State residents from telemarketers.

The bill to create a list of residents who don't want to be called is among the items on the Senate's voting agenda Monday.

Under the bill, residents who want to be on the "no-call list" would notify the Department of Community Affairs through a toll-free number. The list would be updated frequently.

More than 20 states have already adopted "no-call" lists.

Telemarketers violating the act would be subject to the state's consumer fraud law.

A version of the bill passed the Assembly in June. It will have to be reconciled with the Senate version if the Senate passes its bill.
