Smallpox Vaccinations for NJ Docs?

by NBC10/AP | Dec 6, 2002
Smallpox Vaccinations for NJ Docs? New Jersey has a plan to vaccinate 15,000 health care workers against smallpox by January.

The plan calls for vaccinations for between 50 and 100 workers at each hospital. Health Commissioner Clifton Lacy says the doctors, nurses and other health care workers could then safely treat others infected by an outbreak.

The plan will be sent to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for approval next week. Enough vaccine would be sent to New Jersey after approval.

State officials have already submitted a plan for vaccinating everyone in the state if there is an outbreak anywhere in the world.
