Amber Alert Now in NJ

by NBC10/AP | Dec 23, 2002
Amber Alert Now in NJ New Jersey has joined 29 other states with an Amber Alert system. Alerts will go out when a child 17 or younger is abducted and there's the threat of death or serious injury.

State police will notify the media, which will broadcast information about the child and kidnapper for the first three hours. After that, the information will be broadcast at whatever intervals the stations and state police consider appropriate.

Message boards on highways also will carry the alert.

Dallas-area broadcasters developed Amber Alert at the request of residents after Amber Hagerman's 1996 murder.

Amber Alert is credited with the recovery of 41 children nationwide.
