Bruno`s Restaurant

One of my greatest joys is finding a restaurant that I can add to my list of favorites. One that has great food, a good atmosphere, and is not too expensive so I can visit often. My latest discovery was Bruno`s Restaurant in Haddon Twp. On my mother`s birthday, I wanted to take her somewhere different for lunch, but I wasn`t sure where. Upon a suggestion, we decided to try Bruno`s. As soon as we entered, I`m glad we took the chance. With beautiful chandeliers, large windows and greenery abound, the dining room had a warm and cozy feel. The soft Italian music was a nice touch, and set the tone for an authentic meal.

As nice as the atmosphere was however, it was the food - a work of art in its own right - that was the star of the show.

Bruno`s offers salads, sandwiches, calzones, stromboli, pasta, Italian platters and many varieties of pizza. Chicken, veal and seafood entrees, all served with pasta and a choice of salad or homemade soup, are also available. In addition, different lunch specials are featured daily.

We started our meal with homemade rolls and tomato pie (slices of warm bread topped with fresh sauce and herbs). My mom even remarked that she would have been content making a meal out of the bread alone. We knew, though, it was probably a good indication of how our meal would taste so we resisted the urge to finish the basket. Next, I had one of the day`s lunch specials - Caesar salad with chicken ($4.95) and a bowl of escarole soup. The soup, consisting of escarole, bread and noodles in a light broth, was delicious. On my salad, the warm chicken was seasoned and grilled to perfection. And the dressing was just the way I like it, rich and creamy.

My mother chose Veal Povarotti ($14.50). She decided to have salad with her entree, and was impressed with both the freshness and the assortment of vegetables. The veal stuffed with crab was served in a pink sauce with shrimp and pasta. She told me she had the leftovers the next day and it was just as good the second time.
