Caribbean Crab

After enduring a long, cold winter and suffering through months of cabin fever, everyone deserves a trip to the islands. But if you`re anything like me, vacations to the Caribbean are few and far between. Luckily, Seth and I found Caribbean Crab in Oaklyn. The journey is a lot shorter and the cost is much more affordable, but the feeling is just as authentic and the food is phenomenal!

As soon as we walked in, Seth remarked how striking the restaurant`s appearance was, and I couldn`t have agreed more. With its babbling brooks, tons of greenery - including a number of "palm trees" - and tropical decor, you feel as though you`re stepping into an island paradise. After we were seated, we noted that the tables were adorned with fish-shaped place mats and candles. As we looked over the menu, we soaked up the warm atmosphere and listened to the great music that filled the room.

much consideration, we decided to start with the Coconut Fried Shrimp ($8.95) and the Hot Seafood Sampler ($10.95). Both the fried shrimp and the sampler - which consisted of clams casino, stuffed mushrooms, grilled shrimp and scallops - were incredible selections of unbelievably delicious food.

Next I had two Fried Hard-Shell Crabs Stuffed with Crabmeat ($16.95) while Seth enjoyed a 10-oz. Filet Mignon ($18.95). I chose a twice-baked potato and cole slaw to accompany my entree; Seth decided on seasoned fries and the fresh vegetable of the day. We were both equally impressed with our selections. In fact, I can say without hesitation that they were the best crabs I have ever had. It`s easy to see why this restaurant has been consistently awarded "Best of South Jersey" and remains an area favorite.

Chef and owner Anthony Midili Jr., along with his wife Paula, makes everything fresh on the premises with the help of chef Butch and Anthony`s mom Rosina. All meals are cooked to order using only the best ingredients.

Specials are offered and entertainment, including Karaoke Tuesdays with Paul, Psychic Mary Chew on Wednesdays, Sing along with the Lee Boys on Thursdays and Mike Corman on piano Fridays and Saturdays, is provided nightly.

Reservations are recommended and catering is available. There is a store next to the restaurant for takeout. It is open Monday 2 to 9 p.m., Tuesday through Friday noon to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 1 to 9:30 p.m. Caribbean Crab 301 White Horse Pike Oaklyn 858-CRAB
