Connie Mac`s Irish Pub

Everyone knows that you don`t have to be Irish to delight in an Irish pub. At Connie Mac`s Irish Pub, though, what you do need to have is an appetite for great food and lots of fun!

This friendly restaurant and sports bar was the perfect place for my old friend Amy and I to enjoy a casual dinner recently. Connie Mac`s has a little bit of everything...comfortable booths, a long wraparound bar, a game room with a pool table and a private party room. There is even an outdoor dining deck. The decor is more upscale than you`d expect, with hardwood paneling, soft colors and delicate Victorian scrollwork adorning the windows.

Connie told us that the menu has just been expanded to include more entrees and specials. It now showcases dozens of appetizers, burgers, sandwiches and entrees. For an appetizer, we decided on The Sampler, ($6.95) with Garlic Buffalo Tenders, Cream Cheese Poppers, Breaded Smoked Provolone Stix and Sweet Potato Sticks. All were delicious, but the Sweet Potato Sticks were a standout - crisp and lightly spiced on the outside, yet creamy and rich on the inside.

All entrees are served with a choice of fries, baked potato or linguini, plus coleslaw or salad. We chose salads, which are served with a basket of fresh Italian bread and butter.

For her entree, Amy ordered the 8 oz. Filet Mignon ($12.95) and said that it was exceptionally tender and flavorful, cooked medium as she had requested. My special, Shrimp and Crab Cacciatore ($8.95), was served atop linguine. It was a generous portion, overflowing with crab meat, large shrimp, peppers and mushrooms. Afterwards, Amy talked me into sharing an "Irish" desert, Irish Creme Pie ($2.95). It was served with two mounds of whipped cream and was creamy, chocolately and sinfully delicious.

Connie Mac`s has nightly specials, plus $1.95 lunch specials and Happy Hour on Mondays through Fridays from 5 to 7 p.m. with discounted food and 10¢ appetizers from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday is $9.95 Prime Rib Blues Night and there is karaoke, bands and DJs on weekends. Take my word for it, this is a true hot spot!

Now`s a great time to bring out the Irish in you as Connie Mac`s celebrates St. Patty`s Day during the entire month of March with ongoing specials and events. Call for details. They also offer on- and off-site catering and all major credit cards are accepted.
