Drug Lord Pleads Guilty

by NBC10/AP | Mar 28, 2003
Drug Lord Pleads Guilty A former major player in Camden drug dealing pleaded guilty Friday to a 1993 murder.

The plea from Luis "Tun Tun" Figueroa came one day after he was sentenced to 35 years in federal prison with no chance of parole for his role in running "The Organization," a powerful drug operation that had connections to former Camden Mayor Milton Milan.

Figueroa agreed to accept a 30-year prison term for the 1993 murder of Manuel DeJesus. If Superior Court Judge Samuel D. Natal approves the plea agreement, Figueroa's term would be concurrent with the federal sentence.

Figueroa is also awaiting trial on a Philadelphia murder, authorities said.

Through a courtroom interpreter Friday, Figueroa explained what happened on Oct. 12, 1993.

"I am the person who killed this person, Manuel DeJesus," Figueroa said. "I shot him in the head twice."

Natal scheduled sentencing for April 11.

Figueroa has been in federal custody since his arrest in June 1998 at his home in Ciales, Puerto Rico.
