Melinda`s Gourmet Pantry

Are you one of those folks who believes that gourmet food has to be expensive? I did, at least before I visited Melinda`s Gourmet Pantry at 138 Fries Mill Road in Turnersville. Melinda`s motto is `Gourmet Eating Without Expensive Gourmet Dining,` and when you go you`ll discover why.

My dining chum Linda and I recently had the good fortune to eat there. (Melinda`s currently has only two tables, as their business is primarily take-out and catering.) Whether you decide to eat in or take out, you`re in for a wonderful treat.

I ordered one of the day`s special sandwiches: honey-roasted turkey, brie, pear and honeycup mustard on a baguette ($4.95). Linda picked a menu sandwich, the Camelot, which con-sisted of grilled chicken, roasted pep-pers and balsamic vinaigrette on a baguette ($4.95). We also sampled the soup du jour, chicken pastine ($1.95, 12-oz. cup), as well as penne pasta with fresh tomato and basil ($2.50 per 1/2 lb.), solid white tuna with apples ($3.00, 1/2 lb.) and chicken salad with tomatoes and pine nuts ($4.50, 1/2 lb.).

With no exaggeration, I can tell you that we loved everything. Both our sandwiches were so packed we had trouble getting them into our mouths! And the salads were superb. (Melinda`s uses only the healthiest ingredients in their food.) A t Melinda`s, you can select the potatoes du jour, turkey meatloaf and grilled vegetables - or any combination of meats, salads and fruits that your heart desires - and, voila! You have a full, healthy meal. (Most prices are per half-pound, but you can get as much or as little as you`d like.) You can feed yourself or your family delicious, home-cooked gourmet food for practically the same price you`d pay for bland, uninspired fast-food elsewhere.

Stop by for breakfast, too, and try some gourmet low-fat yogurt muffins, scones, crumb cake, raisin pecan toast, biscotti, coffees and more. There`s even a selection of Sobe and Mad River gourmet soft drinks. Melinda`s also has a delivery service available. Stop in or call today!
