Ming Kui Lau

Ming Kui Lau, which recently opened in Brooklawn, is the perfect place to go if you are in the mood for outstanding Chinese food and are very, very hungry.

When Gary and I arrived for dinner, we were quite impressed by the dining room`s spaciousness and beautiful decor. In particular, the recessed ceiling was magnificent, with colorful borders and sparkling chandeliers glittering in the light.

Our friendly waiter Thomas greeted us immediately and told us about the buffet ($9.99 adult/$5.49 children for dinner, prices vary during the week), which has different items each day. There are four stations to choose from, including a shrimp and salad bar, soups, and such entrees as all you can eat King Crab legs, ribs, shrimp, chicken, pork, beef, mussels in barbecue sauce, lo mein, stir fry dishes, fried rice, and more.

But that`s not all, on the night we enjoyed the buffet, there was also a carving station with roast beef and turkey. For the small price you pay, what you get is unbelievable. The buffet is also available for lunch ($5.99 adult/$3.49 children, prices vary during the week).

As Gary made his way through some crispy egg rolls and meaty, spicy ribs, I decided to order from the menu. I began with the Chinese Pizza ($1.50), which was enough for two. The soft triangles of dough were sprinkled with scallions and were accompanied by a tangy sesame sauce. My entree, the Seafood Deluxe ($9.95), was a mountain of King Crab meat, prawns, scallops, fresh vegetables and crowned with a large portion of sweet lobster. By the way, you can add a 1-1/4 lb. lobster to any dish on Friday, Saturday or Sunday nights for only $3.99.

Meanwhile, Gary had made a pleasant discovery - there was sushi on the buffet! In fact, each time he made a trip to the buffet, he found something new that he had missed. From the comments that we heard from other patrons, they were delighted with the buffet as well.

I never miss dessert, and Ming Kui Lau doesn`t disappoint here, either. Aside from a bounty of fruit, there were light, fluffy pastries, a variety of petit fours, even soft serve ice cream.

Although it is only a few weeks old, Ming Kui Lau is a very smoothly run operation. The pace is relaxed, the waiters are attentive, and the platters on the buffet were always full. Takeout is available, and most major credit cards are accepted.
