The Pub

For over 46 years, The Pub has been a fixture in the Pennsauken community, and it has built its reputation on great steaks, a large Caesar salad bar and quick, personal service. Generations of customers from all over the tri-state area have enjoyed the comfortable atmosphere at the Tudor-style steakhouse, which was built to resemble a medieval castle.

On the evening my companion and I visited, the large dining room was filled with couples and families all engaged in lively conversation. Once we were seated, our friendly wait server Nicole thoroughly explained the menu and was quick to offer suggestlons upon request.

We decided to begin our meal with French Onion Soup ($3.45) and Snapper Soup ($3.25), the latter of which my companion noted as being very tasty indeed.

Next we ventured to the famous Pub Salad Bar, which - along with hearth-baked bread and a baked potato - is included with the price of all entrees. The salad bar was overflowing with fresh vegetables, mushroom salad, applesauce, carrot salad, pasta salad, fruit bread and a variety of dressings. There is also a "Make Your Own Caesar Salad" section.

For our entrees, my guest chose the House Specialty: a 12- oz. Filet Mignon ($20.95) that was thick with natural flavor. It was topped by a large fried onion, and my companion described it as "simply delicious."

I chose the Boneless Breast of Chicken Parmigiana ($13.95) served with a side of spaghetti. One thing is certain - The Pub is not stingy. The chicken breast was so large, I wasn`t able to finish it.

The restaurant also offers several grilled steak specials - including Filet Mignon, Porterhouse, Sirloin Strip, Top Sirloin and Rib-Eye - which are seasoned and seared over charcoal and served with natural gravy. Since the charcoal ovens are located right in the main dining room, customers have the opportunity of watching the chefs prepare their meals.

Along with their famous steaks, chicken and fish entrees, The Pub also has a large selection of sandwiches. Children`s dinners are offered for those under 10; on Sundays, kids eat for free. The Pub has a large dessert menu that includes Black Forest Cake ($2.95), a selection of gourmet cheese cakes ($2.95), Royal Polynesian ($2.50), Peach Melba ($4.25) and Deep-Dish Apple Cobbler ($3.25). We chose to share a slice of Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cheesecake (a sinfully delightful dish), which we quickly devoured.

To complement a meal, the restaurant has frozen drinks (Almond Mochaccion, Cappuccino Nut, daiquiris and margaritas), parfait cocktails (Golden Cadillac, Banana Flip, Pink Squirrel), premium house wines, specialty coffee treats (Dutch, Irish, Mexican and Italian cof- fees, espresso and cappuccino), soft drinks, lemonade, orange juice and milk.

With a wait staff that is eager to please, delicious dishes, reasonable prices and a casual atmosphere, The Pub is a great place to spend an enjoyable evening.

Besides its main dining room, The Pub has a variety of dining options available to its customers, including a private smaller room with a fireplace and a bar area. The restaurant can accommodate up to 489 guests.
