Low Fares for Light-Rail

by NBC10/AP | May 6, 2003
Low Fares for Light-Rail The lowest fares in the region await passengers once the new Southern New Jersey Light-Rail Transit System begins operating.

The one-way fare from Trenton to Camden will be $1.10. That is about one-third the cost of riding a N.J. Transit bus between the two cities.

It's also cheaper than the fares for service between Newark and New York City, and between Philadelphia to Trenton.

N.J. Transit is hoping low fares would entice customers to ride the new trains.

Ridership projections for the line have dropped over the last three years. And the project is plagued by cost overruns.

The rail line is scheduled to debut this fall.
