SJ Schools: King`s Christian HS
King’s Christian students have accomplished great feats in the 2002-2003 school year. Congratulations to these award-winning students:
The King’s Christian School Track & Field Team received top honors at the TSCAC meet in May. The senior girls team placed second in the competition with outstanding performances from Katie Smith, winning the gold for the individual 400 meter run and the silver for the 200 meter dash, Laura Goodrow winning the silver for the mile and 800-meter runs, Christen Morrison, winning the silver for the 100 meter dash, Jocelyn Crutchfield, winning the bronze for the shot put, and John Beauchamp winning the silver for the 400 meter run. The senior girl’s team also won the gold in the 4x200 meter relay thanks to the athletic ability of Katie Smith, Sarah Goodrow, Brittany Knoedler, and Christen Morrison.
In May, King’s Christian physics students Dawn Verlander, Dan Grimes, Ben Hample, Ryan Haag, Jim Verlander, Jon Schimpf, and Laura Smarrito participated in the Physics program at the park at Six Flags Great Adventure. The students measured the forces on several of the rides including Superman and Nitro by holding a force meter while riding the roller coasters. The day was a fun way for students to understand Physics outside of the classroom setting.
King’s Christian mathematicians achieved their goals this year by participating (and winning) several math competitions. At the ACSI Math Olympics, junior-high student Ben Grimes received 5th place for 7th grade reasoning and Sharon Si received a 1st place ribbon for 8th grade computation and a medal for the highest percentage correct on the severely challenging test.
Alegbra I students ranked high on the New Jersey Math League testing with top honors going to Michael Crawford, Samuel Pierce, Sharon Si, Samuel Morales, Lauren Tomasello, Heather DiRienze, and Laura Kennedy.
Selected South Jersey high school students had the opportunity to participate in the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey’s South Jersey scholars program. Congratulations to King’s graduates Dawn Verlander, Johanna Weber, and Steve Nemerofsky. After the graduation ceremony in May, the program announced its inductees for the 2003-2004 school year. Congratulations to Katrina Stouff, Rebecca Stouff, Joe-Heinz Jones, and Dave Cook for earning a spot in this prestigious program.
The King’s Christian Junior High Students competed at the ACSI Fine Arts Festival in March. Each King student that entered earned a ribbon. Congratulations to Katie Morris, John Summerville, Laura Kennedy, Rebecca Stackhouse, Alexandra Gervasi, Rebecca Stackhouse, Lisa Radebaugh, Blaze Boettcher, Brooke Szymanski, Shane Veight and Amy Motson.
In April, King’s Christian senior high students entered the ACSI High School Fine Arts Festival. Congratulations to Aaron Smulktis who won Best of Show for his life-size oil painting and Laura Smarrito who won Best of Show for fiber arts for her handbag and accessories. Jon Bowman also won Best of Category for his collage. These talented students achieved the highest honors in the competition.
Five King’s Christian music students were honored in April at the Camden County Freeholders Music Awards. The program awards outstanding high school musicians in Camden County. Congratulations to Ed Ackley, John Gross, Kelsey Pfeifer, Andrew Falls and Holly Perozzi.
