Fatal Accident in Wildwood

Fatal Accident in Wildwood One woman died and five people were injured when a sport utility vehicle backed into a crowd standing in line outside a New Jersey shore bakery Sunday morning, police said.

A preliminary investigation found the driver was trying to parallel park outside Britton's Gourmet Bakery when her Ford Explorer suddenly accelerated, backing over the curb and striking people on the sidewalk.

The crash killed a woman and hospitalized two men and two women. One man was treated at the scene. All of the victims were adults, and Wildwood Crest police did not immediately release their names or conditions.

Police identified the driver as Dorothy Burke, 51, of Bensalem, Pa. No charges had been filed by Sunday afternoon, pending an investigation.

A woman who answered the phone at the family run bakery Sunday afternoon said everyone there was too distraught to talk about the crash.
