SJ Schools: Absegami HS
Absegami has enjoyed several accomplishments in the 2002-2003 school year. As they are rolling out their first few months of the new year, students hope to model and exceed the achievements of the previous year.
In May, the mathematical geniuses of the Advanced Placement Calculus 2 class participated in the Super Bowl of High School Calculus. As their first time entering the competition, the Absegami Rolle's Revengers ranked 16 out of the 204 participating teams. The team was also one of two teams in New Jersey to place in the top 20.
Each year, the Ralph W. Martin Education Foundation awards grants to the Greater Egg Harbor Regional High School District to support educational endeavors. Last year, an award went to Absegami teacher Betty Rinehimer for the Baby-Think-It-Over Youth Pregnancy Deterrence program. The program seeks to demonstrate the reality and responsibility of having a child. An award also went to Kathleen Willson and Linda Thompson to provide software for a better web page design and to involve other students in helping to create it. Congratulations to the Absegami faculty for their winning ideas.
Demonstrating the talent of students in the world of computers, Absegami students completed the Microsoft Office Specialist program for Word 2000 and Excel 2000. 42 students passed the Word test and 10 passed the Excel test. Students will receive a certificate to confirm their expertise in the computer applications.
The Absegami High School Yearbook Staff was awarded the Taylor Publishing Company Award of Excellence. The company judged books published between October 2001 and October 2002 by their overall design and content. The Absegami yearbook will appear in the 2003 Taylor’s Yearbook publication displaying the nation’s best yearbooks.
Absegami High School students may have proven themselves academically, but they are also no slouches when it comes to athletics. The Absegami Girl’s Basketball Team competed at the Shootout at the Shore and won first place in the Cape-Atlantic Conference American Division I. With the talent of team members such as Shantae Barnes, Lindsay McCarthy, Kara Ayers, and Kristina Rosario, the Absegami Braves tore past their competition to clinch the win.
Also, the Absegami Wresting team enjoyed two spots on the state championship list with Ryan Bridge in the 130lb category and Ryan Goodman in the 170lb category.
Absegami High School is located on 201 South Wrangleboro Road in Absecon. For more information, contact (609) 652-1375 or visit their website at www.absegami.net.
