Paws Farm Nature Center

Paws Farm Nature Center was created in 1979 during the renovation of the Darnell family farmstead. To encourage an animal-human bond, the farm opened exhibits and nature education for patrons to gain a stronger appreciation for animals. Nestled within the town of Mount Laurel on 1105 Hainesport-Mt. Laurel Road, PAWS attracts more than 50,000 visitors each year.

PAWS offers classes and story hours for children, animal programs and birthday parties, as well as special events. Visitors are treated to interactive exhibits and more than 80 animals and birds. Special events include a Spring Egg Hunt, sheep herding, horse grooming and Grandparents Day.

To further the education to those that are unable to visit PAWS farm, the PAWS on Wheels program brings staff and animals to libraries, schools and other businesses. The program is great for children’s groups to give the opportunity and benefit of interacting with animals.

A visit to PAWS Farm includes several interactive exhibits to enjoy. The Memorial Butterfly Garden contains hundreds of plants specifically chosen to attract butterflies. Some visitors may enjoy butterflies at various stages of development throughout the year. Additionally, a gazebo, water pump and swings-set create an activity area full of family fun.

The Farmhouse was constructed in 1736 and is the center focus of PAWS Farm. PAWS volunteers raised funds to restore the home to include a smoke house, ice house and family cemetery. Inside the farmhouse children can pretend to be a veterinarian, play the piano, read a book or visit with an animal.

The Dairy Barn’s Moo-Trition Market treats visitors to the story of milk, teaches the importance of nutrition and view natural history exhibits. Children can color and draw pictures. The Dairy Barn is an educational and fun spot for families.

The PAWS Nature Trail allows visitors to find an animal home, learn about special plants or view an historic cemetery while walking the trail. The PAWS Barn Yard is home to both domestic and wild animals. You can touch the domestic farm animals and feed the sheep and goats. A miniature horse and pot-bellied pig are also located next to the Dairy Barn.

Hours and Admission
PAWS is open year-round, Wednesday through Sunday, from 10am until 4pm. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children (babies less than 1 year old are free). Cash or check only; no debit/credit cards. Groups are encouraged to reserve in advance.

A Limited Family Membership (for 5 visits per family within one year) is $50. A Family Membership is $100, and that includes unlimited visit admission for everyone that lives in your house (parents and their children) and two one-time-use guest passes. There are also Benefactor and Patron membership options available.
