Apple Brown Betty

4 apples
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup butter
2 cups soft bread crumbs
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup hot water
1 tbsp. lemon juice

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease baking dish. Cut the apples into quarters; cut each quarter into thin slices. Arrange sliced quarters into baking dish. Mix 1/4 cup sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle the mixture over the apples. Turn on the burner to low. Melt the butter in saucepan. Add the soft breadcrumbs and the remaining sugar to the butter. Blend it well with a fork. Spread the crumb mixture over the apples and level it with a fork. Mix the hot water and lemon juice and pour it evenly over the crumbs. Bake for 45 minutes.
